Tosca
November 11-13, 2022 at The Booth Tarkington Theater
The Indianapolis Opera brings you Puccini’s Tosca, featuring world-renowned and Indianapolis-born soprano Angela Brown, who leads a cast of highly acclaimed artists at the Tarkington Theater this November.
Amid the chaos of the French Revolutionary Wars, Floria Tosca, the great soprano of her time, finds herself and her lover in the crosshairs of Scarpia, the chief of police, in 1800 Rome. Tosca is in love with rebellious painter extraordinaire Cavaradossi (performed by Metropolitan Opera tenor Gregory Turay), but the tyrant Scarpia (last season’s Commendatore in Don Giovanni, Andrew Potter) becomes obsessed with ruining the pair of lovers during a political investigation. Bear witness as their passionate love is threatened by dramatic forces beyond their control, illustrated through sweeping music and romantic orchestration. In this historic production, Indianapolis Opera proudly presents Angela Brown’s first hometown performance of Tosca.
Contemporary Workshop Series: Gallantry & More
March 25 & 26, 2023 at the Basile Opera Center
We are excited to launch our Contemporary Workshop Series, featuring the comic one-act opera Gallantry and the world-premiere of a new operatic work. This intimate and comical operatic experience will feature our 2022-2023 Resident Artists and bring you a family friendly example of contemporary American opera. Written by 20th century composer Douglas Moore, Gallantry mimics a soap opera of 1950s television, featuring hilarious hijinks, suspense, and a love triangle between a surgeon, his anesthetist, and their patient. Alongside this musical masterpiece, we will also premiere a newly workshopped opera, allowing for an unforgettable opportunity to explore new contemporary works at the Indianapolis Opera!
